Seeking volunteer ESL tutors for refugees living in central and northern New Jersey. Can be remote or in-person. It is helpful to have ESL experience or general teaching experience, but not required. Materials are provided through Google Drive library and/or physical books. You do not need to speak a common language with the refugees being taught (in fact it is advantageous to not have a common language so we can encourage practicing English!). Refugee students are from many different countries of origin and vary in their English proficiency from pre-literate beginners to intermediate English. Background check is required through Sterling Volunteers. We are a 501c3 registered nonprofit concentrating on advocacy and promoting social, emotional, educational and economic success among refugees in New Jersey.
