Position Summary

The Volunteer Executive Director serves as the chief executive of Women Empowered International, responsible for providing strategic leadership, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring the organization’s mission is effectively carried out. This role requires a visionary leader with strong nonprofit management skills, a passion for gender equity, and the ability to build partnerships and mobilize resources globally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of WEI’s strategic plan and organizational goals.
  • Oversee program implementation, volunteer management, and international operations.
  • Represent WEI in public forums, partnerships, and donor engagements.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and accountability.
  • Manage and support a remote team of volunteers and regional coordinators.
  • Oversee fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and campaigns.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, empowerment, and collaboration across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications
  • Proven leadership experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in fundraising, program development, and team management.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working in international or cross-cultural settings.
  • Passion for women’s empowerment, social justice, and global development.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a remote, volunteer-based team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in or with communities in Africa or the Global South.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit compliance, budgeting, and impact measurement.
  • Multilingual abilities (especially French, Swahili, or other regional languages) are a plus.
