At the South Bay Literacy Council, we believe in the transformative power of literacy, and we're on a mission to spread the joy of learning. As more and more people discover us online, we're reaching out for Social Media Savvy Volunteers to take our online presence to new heights.
Specifically, we're looking for volunteers comfortable using social media to:
-Develop engaging and captivating posts for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and possibly YouTube.
-Craft a well-thought-out schedule for these posts over the next year.
-Monitor and analyze results, helping us grow and adapt our strategy.
This is at least a 9-month commitment, with flexibility to fit your schedule. Your efforts will directly impact our ability to connect with volunteers and students who can benefit from our programs.
No prior social media experience? Some knowledge of social media engagement would be helpful, but it's not a problem. We're looking for someone with:
-Enthusiasm for literacy and education.
-A creative spark for content creation.
-Willingness to learn and adapt.

Mission Statement
Because we believe literacy is life-changing and empowering, we volunteer to teach adults to read, write, and speak English for free.
Description
The South Bay Literacy Council (SBLC) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to teaching adults over 18 to read, write and speak English.
For more than 40 years, SBLC has provided group and individual tutoring in Torrance, Hawthorne, Gardena, Wilmington and other South Bay-Los Angeles communities. Since COVID-19 restrictions, we have been tutoring online.
Our training workshops equip volunteers to teach adults how to read, write, and speak English.
Headquartered in Torrance, the organization is an affiliate of ProLiteracy America. We are staffed and operated entirely by volunteers. The council relies solely on private sector donations and receives no government funding.
There is an urgent, ongoing need for more trained volunteers for tutoring and for management support. Be part of the solution and make a real difference in someone's life.

- We think at least weekly something should be posted. It shouldn't take more than an hour or two. You would do this in the time you have available.
- All volunteers with the South Bay Literacy Council must attend our information meeting to get a basic understanding of who we are. We hold these meetings (usually online) every other month. They take about 1 1/2 hours.
