Take just a few hours each month to make a positive difference in your community. Make friendly visits to brighten the day of our patients. Our volunteers share time and give emotional support to patients living in nursing homes or their home. You may volunteer weekdays, evenings, weekends, etc. Usually, volunteers see patients once a week or every other week. The primary need is patient companionship-- simply being there to make a positive difference in the life of another.

Our volunteers provide a variety of supportive services. Some interact directly with patients and families, while others perform administrative tasks in an office setting.

Working directly with patients and families, volunteers may:

  • Visit patients, providing companionship
  • Read books or news
  • Sing to or play musical instruments for patients
  • Celebrate holidays
  • Help with light housekeeping
  • Make phone calls or write letters
  • Provide emotional/spiritual support
  • Work on life-history projects and Memory Journal
  • Sit with patients to relieve caregivers
  • Help with bereavement

In the office, volunteers may:

  • File and do light office work
  • Answer calls and make calls to patients
  • Help distribute information
  • Assist with community relations activities
