OCA-East Bay (www.ocaeastbay.org) has been conducting PickITup Chinatown's monthly for the better part of eight years and not just on the big holidays. Depending on how many people we have we do trash/litter cleanup, report illegal dumping, and disrupt graffiti.
WE DO THIS ON THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH FROM 11AM-2PM, MEETUP At WILMA CHAN PARK
For those who have a long weekend we hope they can the time to reflect on Dr. King's civil rights legacy which led to formation of policies around non-discrimination, voting rights, and desegregation among many other values.
For all who would like to attend, please fill out this online release form, we require partiicpants fill them out at least once a year.

OCA-East Bay is the East Bay Chapter of OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates (www.ocanational.org), one of the oldest national Asian Pacific American civil rights organizations with volunteer chapters across the country and a national center in Washington, D.C. The goal of our PickITup program is to teach community ownership.

The OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates (previously known as the Organization of Chinese Americans) is a non-profit organization founded in 1973, whose stated mission is to advance the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) in the United States. OCA has mostly volunteer-run Chapters across the country and a National Center in Washington, D.C. OCA-East Bay was founded in 1987 and has worked hard on equal rights, fair representation and civic leadership of Asian Pacific Americans in the East Bay, mainly in Oakland.
Description
OCA-East Bay (www.ocaeastbay.org) focused on civic leadership programs, most notably in Oakland Chinatown. In the recent past OCA-East Bay is known for its volunteer-run community cleanup in Oakland Chinatown called "PickITup Chinatown" which teaches volunteers about community ownership through collecting trash, reporting city property damage and clearing several square feet of graffiti. OCA-East Bay has activated hundreds of volunteers through the PickITup Chinatown program and the program is meant to be a launching pad for other political education work.
