Saturday Woodworking Day Host and Co-Host.

HeatSync Labs provides access to a large range of tools and we could use help with hosting a Woodworking Meetup on the 4th Saturday every Month from 1pm - 4pm. The time is a little flexible.

You can find a list of our woodworking and other tools on our wiki site which is linked from our main website.

This event will mainly be for anyone working on projects to get help on the next step for their project and cover the safety and basics of using the woodworking tools. If you have moderate to expert level experience with woodworking and would be interesting in helping people as they work on their projects this may be a fun opportunity for you.

I'll be co-hosting these events as a way to grow my own knowledge. Often people want help getting started with a tool and I will help them out. Most of the tools I'm comfortable helping with, but could get more experience with the table saw and router. My personal goal is to get proficient enough that I can schedule with anyone wanting to cover how to use any woodworking tool. My goal for HeatSync Labs is to find 2 people to regularly covering a monthly woodworking event that will provide a specific time for people who want to get help.

Please see the following criteria before reaching out:

  • Be available during the mentioned time
  • Be physically able to move and set up the heavier equipment
  • Be able to give critical feedback about safety and escalate when not in compliance
  • Also be willing to discuss people's projects and ideas and give them suggestions
  • Must be 18+
If you aren't able to, but want other opportunities to help then come to our regular community meeting (Hack Your Hackerspace) and talk to the other great people that are helping out.

If this seems interesting to you please reach out. We will set up a time to tour our space and talk about making things happen.

About HEATSYNC LABS

Location:

Mission Statement

HeatSync Labs is an Arizona nonprofit organization aimed at empowering engineers, artists, and inventors to push the limits of technology beyond its intended use. We host public hours (that are posted on our calendar). The concept for HeatSync Labs came out of the desire for a group of Arizona locals to get together and continue working on projects after academic life. We wanted a place to share tools, space, and ideas with fellow hackers and makers.

Description

HeatSync Labs started first became a non-profit in 2009 with a group of people who wanted to eventually have a physical space to share access to tools and resources. We have since achieved that goal and grown in the size of our space and the number of tools we provide access to.

We have 3D-printing, electronics, laser cutters, machine shop, jewelry making, screen printing, sewing, vinyl cutter, welding, LEGO, bicycle repair station, biochemistry lab, and wood shop.

We have open hours 4 days a week for anyone who wants to come work on making things. Part of the purpose of having an active account on Volunteermatch is for more interested people to find out about us. I'd encourage you to come check out many of our free events, paid classes, or just open hours. Definitely reach out if you have an interest in any of our volunteer opportunities, but also consider the much broader range of possible ways you can volunteer in such a creative community.
