ORGANIZATION: Patrick Henry's Red Hill

Image_202401051125

We are looking for a blacksmith who would love to share their talent and skills with school-age children and adult visitors to Patrick Henry’s Red Hill.

Red Hill is Patrick Henry’s last home and burial place, located in the heart of Southside Virginia.

Responsibilities include demonstrating blacksmithing skills during our Living History field trips, allowing children to have a hands-on experience with a historical trade. You would also be asked to demonstrate blacksmithing during our special events, which would include adults as well as children. Our living history field trips take place in the mornings during the work week.

Experienced blacksmiths are preferred, but no experience is needed. Training is available by our current blacksmith. If you love history and working with the public, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!

About Patrick Henry's Red Hill

Location:

1250 RED HILL RD, BROOKNEAL, VA 24528, US

Mission Statement

Patrick Henry's Red Hill promotes educational and research programs about the life, character, times, philosophy, and legacy of Patrick Henry. As part of that mission, Red Hill, Patrick Henry’s last home and burial place, is maintained and interpreted as a historic site and museum.

Description

Patrick Henry's Red Hill, stewarded by the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation, was founded in 1944 to care for Red Hill and establish it as a National Memorial to Patrick Henry. After acquiring Red Hill from the Henry family, the Foundation began the process of restoring the property and constructing a museum to house what is now the largest collection of Patrick Henry-related artifacts in the world.

Today, Red Hill includes Patrick Henry’s grave and law office, his reconstructed house and other outbuildings, rare artifacts in the E. Stuart James Grant Museum Room, and a growing network of interpretive scenic trails. Educational programs such as living history days, school field trips, adult lectures, and museum exhibitions provide ample opportunities for community engagement and education.
