Mission Statement

Our mission is to ignite a spark in the hearts of young black girls, empowering them to transform their communities and the world. By providing the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed, we will unleash their incredible potential and help them to become changemakers.

Description

Sisters Keepers' vision was ignited more than 13 years ago by its founder, Violet Pearson, in response to a troubling wave of femicides and sexual assaults targeting black women. What initially began as a series of marches and protests has since evolved into a global network of women united in their support for one another and their commitment to fostering the next generation of girl leaders.

At Sisters Keepers, we firmly believe in the transformative power of collaboration. Our partnership model is carefully crafted to cultivate deep and lasting relationships, capable of creating a profound impact on the lives of black girls. These efforts ripple out, extending their reach far beyond our immediate community.

Our mission at Sisters Keepers is clear: we aim to inspire, support, engage, equip, and unleash the leadership potential of young black girls between the ages of 12 and 18. We achieve this through a multifaceted approach that includes the BGILD Community Excellence Awards Program, the Sisters Keepers Leadership Institute, the Sisters Keepers Mentoring Circle, and an SK scholarship initiative. Our program operates on a self-sustaining, volunteer-based model designed to nurture young leaders within the community. https://www.sisters-keepers.org/who-we-are
