Location: Remote

Duration: 6+ Months

Role: Software Developer - Front End

About Us

Digital Aid Seattle is a collective of professionals with diverse expertise dedicated to transforming the nonprofit sector. We partner with nonprofits, using our skills to enhance their efficiency, effectiveness, and accessibility, ultimately increasing their overall impact.

Why Join Us?

By volunteering with us, you directly enhance the reach and efficacy of NGOs, with our nurturing environment, where common values unite everyone, working collectively to give back to society.

All our volunteers sign an agreement and are vetted for experience before starting work with us. We believe in values like assuming positive intent, bringing out the best in others, and focusing on problems, not just solutions.

You should be seasoned, capable of leading yourself and others in your discipline, available to dedicate enough time to accomplish tasks, and driven to work independently.

Help us create a bigger impact by joining Digital Aid Seattle!

Responsibilities

As a Software Developer, you will

  • Design & Innovate: Develop and optimize user interfaces and frontend solutions tailored to meet our NGO partners' challenges.
  • Collaborate & Adapt: Work closely with diverse teams to create and maintain engaging and responsive web applications as needs arise.
  • Train & Guide: Assist and train users, both technical and non-technical, ensuring they are comfortable with the frontend tools and interfaces provided.
  • Feedback Loop: Continually refine user interfaces and frontend solutions based on feedback, ensuring they are user-centric and efficient.

Desired Technical Proficiency

Don't worry if you don't meet all the qualifications; if you possess some of these skills, we encourage you to apply. We believe in the strength of our collaborative team, which often bridges expertise gaps. Our ideal candidate brings extensive experience and expertise to our frontend team. Your strengths should include:

  • Developing Reusable Components and Layouts: You have a proven track record of crafting reusable frontend components and layouts based on design mock-ups. Your ability to create modular, maintainable code is a key asset.
  • API Data Integration: You excel in seamlessly integrating data from APIs into frontend applications while ensuring robust error handling and component hydration.
  • Leveraging Design Systems: You're adept at adopting components from design systems like Material-UI (MUI) or Bootstrap to faithfully match design mock-ups, providing a cohesive and visually appealing user experience.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: You thrive in collaborative, cross-functional teams, working alongside designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to deliver outstanding frontend solutions. Your communication and teamwork skills are second to none.

Key Technologies

  • Web Frameworks: Proficiency in React or Angular is advantageous.
  • Frontend Technologies: Strong grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • User Experience (UX) Design: Familiarity with UX design principles and the ability to create UI/UX prototypes using Figma or Sketch.
  • Design Systems: Competence in Material-UI (MUI), Bootstrap, and Tailwind.
  • Version Control: Experience in team collaboration using GitHub.

About Digital Aid Seattle

Location:

107 Spring St, Seattle, WA 98101, US

Mission Statement

Our vision is that society will one day equip altruistic organizations as well as we equip for-profit companies. Over the years, we’ve seen new technologies enable corporations to shape our culture, alter our ecosystem, and usher in new realities we never thought possible. Most non-profit organizations, on the other hand, are totally bereft of technical capability. While they focus on matters paramount to humanity-homelessness, civil rights, environmental sustainability, etc.-they are left to make change with few resources other than selfless dedication and sheer willpower. We will ensure mission-driven nonprofits receive the technical support they need to modernize. There already exists an army of folks working for positive change, we will give them the digital boost they need to exponentially increase their positive impact. We already have the heroes, Digital Aid Seattle is just giving them a tech super-power.

Description

We do the stuff in our Mission Statement.

  • We hold ourselves and each other to high standards
    • Everyone here commits to working at least 4h/week for at least 6 months.
    • We vet our volunteers--only hiring 10% of those who apply.
    • Volunteers need to be endogenously-driven and self-managed--taking ownership over the impact they create.
  • Being on our team is highly rewarding
    • We create tangible impact in the world, serving as a force-multiplier of the work noble non-profits are already doing. This impact is far beyond what any one of us could have by volunteering for those beneficiary non-profits directly.
    • We are the confluence of best practices gleaned from many of our full-time & prior employers (Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, etc.).
    • For those earlier in their career, working with DAS is an opportunity to create a portfolio showcasing competency and impact earned in the face of real-world constraints and compromises.
    • We collectively create a community not only defined by its camaraderie and kindness, but one where we push ourselves and each other to grow, learn, and deliver.
