Recovery Café is a Membership-based recovery support community serving people who have experienced trauma and the results of trauma like homelessness, substance use, and other mental health challenges . Our fantastic Volunteers are an essential part of our team. Whether they're serving coffee, dishing up lunch, or sharing a much-needed listenering ear, our Volunteers help nurture our loving community and culture of recovery for everyone who comes through our doors.
The Café's Community Volunteers, called Café Companions, get involved through program support (helping serve coffee and meals, cleaning up around the Café space, doing short-term projects, etc.) and through Member engagement (getting to know a Member over a meal, playing a game together, participating in a class in the School for Recovery, etc.). Café Companions are encouraged to show up as their authentic selves and build genuine relationships in the Café community.
We have two locations in Seattle: our SODO Café (4202 6th Ave S) and our SLU Café (2022 Boren Ave). These volunteer opportunities will be in-person at our SODO Café. On-site training is available for volunteers. Volunteers are required to follow our policies, which will be covered during orientation. We encourage a weekly or biweekly commitment with a minimum 2-hour shift; however, volunteer opportunities are flexible.

Mission Statement
We are a community of people who have experienced trauma and the results of trauma such as homelessness, addiction, and other mental health challenges coming to know we are loved and that we have gifts to share.
Description
Recovery Café was founded on the knowledge that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, or addictive behaviors.
We provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug and alcohol free space and loving community to anchor Members (our most closely-supported consumers) in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education and employment.
Our program is designed to help people maintain recovery, reduce relapse and fulfill their potential. Important elements of this work include a healing milieu with free, nutritious meals, coffee, tea and lattes, birthday celebrations, Open Mic Nights, access to a computer lab, daily encouragement and a robust delivery of the message YOU MATTER; small, loving accountability groups called Recovery Circles; education through the School for Recovery; resource referrals, and more.
We provide support, resources and a community of care along the entire continuum of a person’s need for recovery assistance. Whether in crisis, newer to recovery, in long-term recovery, after a relapse, during a difficult life change, or mental health transition, the Café is there as a refuge of care with evidence-based addiction support and love. We teach people ways to manage mental health, maintain sobriety, and build community. We help each individual reclaim life as a person worthy of giving and receiving love.
