If this title describes you - apply to be a Hospice Birthday Volunteer! We're looking for friendly, flexible and fun people to brighten the day for our patient's with birthdays!
This role is multi-faceted.
Volunteers will receive the names and addresses weekly of hospice patients who are celebrating birthdays- usually 2-6 patients per week.
Volunteers will call the family, and ask if they'd like a Special Birthday Delivery
If the families say yes, the volunteer will write a birthday card (cards provided by Unity), and deliver a card and small birthday basket (either pre-assembled, or assembled by you from materials we provide) to the family to wish the patient a happy birthday!
This role is a fun way to cherish our patients who are often celebrating their last birthdays, and to make sure they feel loved and cared for by their community and the Unity team!
Volunteers will need to have a little bit of availability at least 5 days a week, and be willing to drive for distances of 10 or so miles surrounding their homes. Timing is very flexible, and we will never assign a patient without your OK! We will divide deliveries up between 2-3 volunteers in different areas of the city/suburbs. This opportunity is a wonderful one for a retiree who enjoys seeing new areas and meeting new people!
Because birthday volunteers will have direct contact with patients and families, you will still need to complete our onboarding process which involves a fingerprinting background check (social security number required), a drug screen and Tb test, and our orientation and training (which is done mostly online).
If this opportunity sounds like a fun way to spend your free time, please get in touch - we'd love to have you on our team!
