Public health interns play a crucial role in advancing the mission of both the PA SHIP and Health Community Lifespaces, which is to cultivate a culture of health with a strong focus on equity. Our aim is to empower the next generation of public health leaders, equipping them to drive positive environmental changes and utilize innovative approaches to establish a more successful, health-promoting atmosphere for future generations. Our shared vision is to provide the upcoming generation with the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives by prioritizing their health and well-being. This comprehensive internship program provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable experience in the field of public health and health professions while actively contributing to the betterment of their communities.

Interns will be responsible for independent work and hour tracking. They will meet with the director at least twice a week, both at the beginning of the week to present their action plan and at the end to review accomplishments, engage in self-assessment, and receive feedback. If interns have specific learning needs or require accommodations, arrangements can be made in collaboration with the director of Healthy Community Lifespaces.

Needs Assessment : Interns will develop and complete a comprehensive needs assessment for projects within various settings, such as, libraries, schools, religious organizations, community gardens, and online platforms (website/social media).

Resource Development : Interns will compile an evidence-based, user-friendly resource list tailored to each project's requirements. This involves creating resources that align with the project's goals.

Partnership Building : Identifying potential partners and collaborating to develop programs is a key aspect of the internship. The Pennsylvania Health Improvement Plan (PA SHIP) is one significant partner, and interns will learn about this collaboration, preparing a short presentation to share their insights. They will have the option to attend SHIP work group meetings to build partnerships in their chosen project areas.

Program Development : Collaborating with existing HCL strategies, such as contests and presentations for the community and schools, interns will work on school wellness plans, library
