The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond provides support services for families with critically ill children who are being treated at Richmond-area hospitals.

Through a partnership with Johnston Willis Hospital, the Happy Wheels cart provides age-appropriate activities and items to families at the Hospital. Volunteers will run the Happy Wheels hospitality cart through the NICU and Postpartum units at Johnston Willis hospital.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

• Volunteers must be 18 or older and commit for at least 6 months to 1 year. Volunteers run the cart weekly and shifts are approximately 1 hour.
• Volunteers will run the Happy Wheels cart by handing out snacks and comfort items to families in the pediatric units
• The cart runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. Additional morning shift times may be available.

If volunteers are interested in contributing to the Happy Wheels program but are under 18 years old or cannot commit long-term, they can purchase items to assemble Activity Packs and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Activity Packs consist of small toys (i.e. coloring books, crayons, play-doh, etc.) consolidated into clear gallon Ziploc bags. Detailed information can be shared with you once you’ve expressed interest.
