Our nation’s Veterans have faced difficult issues throughout their lifetime. As they near the end of their lives, they continue to face unique challenges, both new and old. These challenges are best addressed by another Veteran.

Veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with Veteran patients and their families.

Our Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer Program aims to pair recruited Veteran volunteers with our Veteran hospice patients. Veteran volunteers have the distinct ability to relate and connect with Veteran patients thereby creating a safe environment where life review and healing can occur. Once paired, they can share in their common language and experiences, forming strong relational bonds.

If you know a Veteran with a passion for caring for others and looking to serve your fellow Veterans, consider becoming a Veteran hospice volunteer. Our volunteers are an important part of our hospice care team, helping improve the quality of life for our Veteran patients, their families and their caregivers.

About Amedisys Hospice

Location:

3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, US

Mission Statement

We honor those we serve with compassionate home health, hospice and personal care services that apply the highest quality clinical practices toward allowing our patients to maintain a sense of independence, quality of life and dignity.

Description

No matter who you are, you've got something to offer to hospice patients. Typically, the needs are simple companionship and friendship, emotional support, someone to listen-but the small things you can do make an enormous difference in someone's life. Volunteers are supervised by a volunteer coordinator and are supported by other members of the patient care team. The Amedisys Hospice approach to care creates a patient and family environment of home, comfort and dignity. This approach is extended through our volunteers, who are a vital part of the care team. We offer different types of volunteer options: direct care, indirect care, professional, bereavement, and administrative. College students are welcome to apply to join our internship program enabling them to meet their school's internship requirement while giving back to their community. Some examples of ways volunteers can assist with patients are reading, writing letters, playing music or games, sitting quietly, listening, spiritual support and much more.
