Commitment: 20-30 hours a month

Mission Statement: Albatross Aviary is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating tropical and endangered/protected birds, with a special focus on abused, abandoned, and neglected individuals. We provide them with a safe and loving environment while adhering to the principles of the 5 domains of captive care and childhood developmental trauma care.

Position Overview: Albatross Aviary is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as the Vice President of the Board of Directors. This volunteer position is ideal for someone with a profound love for birds and a deep understanding of avian behavior and welfare. Working closely with the President of the Board, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring that we continue to provide exceptional care and support to our feathered residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Passion for Avian Welfare: Demonstrate a strong passion for the well-being of birds and a comprehensive understanding of avian behavior, health, and care.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Work in active partnership with the President of the Board to set strategic goals, establish priorities, and guide the board in fulfilling our mission.
  • Goal Setting: Assist in defining and tracking board goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with our commitment to the 5 domains of captive care and childhood developmental trauma care.
  • Board Oversight: Collaborate with the President to facilitate effective board meetings, provide input on board committees, and help ensure that all board members are engaged and contributing to our mission.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for avian welfare, both within our organization and in the broader community, promoting awareness and understanding of our work.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the public and raise awareness of our mission through educational programs, events, and outreach activities.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and review of policies and procedures, ensuring that they reflect best practices in bird rescue and care.
  • Fundraising Support: Assist in fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and grant writing to secure the necessary resources for our operations and expansion.
  • Networking: Establish and nurture relationships with other animal welfare organizations, conservation groups, and relevant stakeholders to enhance our impact and reach.
  • Compliance: Ensure that the organization complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements governing nonprofit organizations.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the board to develop and implement a strategic plan that prioritizes the well-being of our feathered residents based on the 5 domains of captive care and childhood developmental trauma care.
  • Transparency and Accountability: Uphold principles of transparency and accountability in all board operations and decisions.
  • Evaluation: Participate in the evaluation of the organization's programs and impact, contributing to our ongoing improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for avian welfare and a strong understanding of birds and their behavior.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit leadership or board governance is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Dedication to our organization's mission and values.
  • A collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
