WHAT WE NEED
Vet SOS is looking for an intake volunteer fluent in both English and Spanish to help register clients and occasionally translate for our veterinary volunteers. Interested candidates must be at least 18 years of age and able to provide great client care while also being able to set boundaries. Candidates are required to be comfortable serving unhoused people and their companion animals in an outdoor, urgent/preventive care setting. The Veterinary Street Outreach Services (Vet SOS) intake volunteer will assist with registering clients with paper forms, providing pet supplies to clients, setting up and breaking down Vet SOS’ twice-monthly clinics.
WHO WE ARE
Vet SOS provides free veterinary care to the companion animals of unhoused San Franciscans and links their human guardians with health care services. Operating since 2001, Vet SOS is a project of SFCCC's Street Outreach Services (SOS) program.
WHAT WE DO
Vet SOS provides twice monthly pop-up veterinary clinics in San Francisco with the help of our veterinary volunteers.
OUR GOALS
- Improve the health of companion animals of unhoused San Franciscans
- Decrease the spread of infectious disease
- Reduce pet overpopulation
- Foster the human-animal bond
- Provide health information and referrals to unhoused San Franciscans
- Champion the welfare of unhoused pet guardians and their companion animals
OUR SERVICES
- On-site veterinary wellness exams including vaccinations, routine procedures, and laboratory testing
- Rabies certificates
- Microchip implantation and registration
- Distribution of animal food, leashes, collars, and other pet supplies
- Referral and transportation to free spay/neuter surgery and other veterinary care
- Linkage to human health services
OUR SUCCESSES
Each year over 500 companion animals of unhoused San Franciscans receive free veterinary care from us.
