We are looking for a dedicated Volunteer Co-ordinator to recruit, interview and supervise volunteer on behalf of Africa Health Organisation (AHO). You will be working with AHO staff and management to support them in their duties working with volunteers. You will also deputise the CEO to ensure that the welfare and needs of volunteers are met. Your Line Manager will be the CEO who has a strong passion for volunteering. The CEO has dedicated part of his time to work with volunteers because volunteers have taken AHO to where it is today. Without volunteers, AHO will cease to exist.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and assess available resources for the volunteer programme activities.
  • Conduct continuous evaluation of the programmes and services delivered by the volunteers and implements corrections when necessary.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit volunteers with the right skills at the right time to match the interest of the organisation.
  • Train volunteers to work effectively on each programme and resolve any conflict or misunderstanding without bias.
  • Enlighten and clarify staff and volunteers on their roles and responsibilities to all stakeholders, in alignment with the goal or objectives of the organisation.
  • Ensure that volunteers are well supervised and check-in as at when due and meet up with the tasks given.
  • Research and draft volunteer policies and procedures, including risk assessments.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database and use this information to monitor and evaluate activities; and write reports for management, trustees and funders.
  • Organise profile raising events to attract new volunteers and raise funds.
  • Ensure that the welfare of volunteers is high and perform any other administrative activities as requested by your Line Manager.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

Skills and qualities that can be helpful are:

  • Minimum of three years managerial or related work experience in a non-profit or charitable organisation, most preferably as a volunteer manager
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal, which will be useful in creating handbooks.
  • Strong analytical, leadership and planning skills.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications, and other fundraising software
  • Attention to details and a clear understanding of the sector; commitment to the organization; and ability to handle information confidentially.
  • Good work ethics, a flexible and non-judgmental approach to people
