ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Freedom Riders National Monument in Anniston, AL seeks volunteer docents to assist rangers at the Greyhound Bus Depot, which will be open to the public on Wednesdays from 10am - 3pm as of November 22, 2023. The volunteer would be trained by and work alongside park rangers. The Bus Depot is a critically significant site in the Freedom Riders story. Exciting things are happening at Freedom Riders. The Greyhound Bus Depot site is under consideration for UNESCO World Heritage designation, and the National Monument has just received funds to design, fabricate and install exhibits at the Bus Depot and the Bus Burning site. Volunteers would support park staff as the site transforms into a world-renowned destination.


We seek volunteers who are passionate about sharing civil rights stories with the public, preferably with public speaking experience. Additional skills that are not required but would serve the park include:


  • Photography
  • Social media
  • Research
  • Curriculum design
