Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Pittsburg Campground overlooks the Wild and Scenic Snake River and is located on a terrace above the Pittsburg Landing Boat Launch in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. This large facility has 28 tent/trailer sites with shade shelters and picnic benches that may accommodate large RVs and trailers with accessible parking and vaulted toilets and paved roads. With access to the Snake River for fishing, boating, historic interpretation, and exploring and hiking, the facility is popular throughout the year.

This opportunity is available from March through November. A minimum of a 4-week commitment within this timeframe is ideal; preference will be given to longer-term applicants. We are hoping to have volunteer assistance specifically in our shoulder season, before our seasonal staff is on board. March - May and September - November. This time of year is very nice in the canyon. Cool temperatures and sometime rainy, green landscapes in the spring and dramatic colors and shadows in the fall.

This position requires that the candidate provide their own RV, travel trailer, or other means of lodging. The host site has access to potable water, vaulted toilets, and propane and generator fuel will be provided. A UTV will also be available for transportation around the campground. Due to the remoteness of this campground, the applicant must be self-reliant in order to be successful.
