HomeGrown Bay Area is a community-based coalition focused on promoting a more just and sustainable food system in the City of San José, California. We are advancing issues like food security, access to healthy food, reducing food waste, and environmental education via a community garden/food forest. For a presentation to a neighborhood association, with approximately 15 people, where the primary language will be Spanish, but Acterra's presentation will be in English, Acterra will need someone to provide two-way interpretation (English, Spanish) in real time. The volunteer will need to be bilingual and familiar with interpretation. The meeting will take place in San Jose at 6 pm and the volunteer will need to provide their own transportation to the event.

Mission Statement

Acterra is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings people together to create local solutions for a healthy planet. We work with residents, businesses, local governments, students, and organizations to support advocacy and education for climate action. We have been a community based organization since 1970.

Description

Acterra is an environmental non-profit serving the Silicon Valley. We provide people with tangible, hands-on activities they can do to improve the environment. All of our work is solution-oriented. We offer several thousand volunteer opportunities each year for adults and youth. Because people get excited by different things, we offer a broad range of programs, from habitat restoration to carbon reduction and more. As importantly, we teach people how to become effective environmental change agents in their communities, neighborhoods, workplaces and schools.

Currently our programs include: Healthy Plate, Healthy Planet; Karl Knapp GoEV, You(th) Be the Change; Green@Home; HomeGrown Bay Area, and Acterra's Student Ambassadors Program.
