We make blankets and give them to children and teens who need a reminder that they matter, are not invisible, worthy of love, and that someone cares. Ill, abused, homeless, experiencing trauma.
Blankets can be anywhere from 36"x36" (preemies and babies) up to a twin-sized blanket, 45"x60" (children and teens)
Blankets, or "Binkies" as they're called, are delivered to our Binky Patrol chapters aross the U.S. The Area Coordinators then deliver the blankets (or get more volunteers to make the deliveries) to local hospitals, crisis centers, police and fire departments, and other local agencies. The blankets are then given to children and teens in need of comfort.
Take-It-and-Make-It: I can provide a limited number of pre-cut fleece blankets that need the fringe cut and tied (knotted), and labels sewn on them. Cutting the fringe will take about 40 minutes, and tying the fringe will take about 30 minutes per blanket. The Binky Patrol labels will be provided and can be sewn on by hand or machine, your choice. Labels must be sewn on all four sides so they are secure and no long threads left hanging. Each label takes about 2 minutes sewn by machine or 5-minutes sewn by hand. Blanket materials are to be picked up from me in Salem, MA and returned to me within two weeks. They are to be kept clean (no pet hairs, dirt or odors), folded and bagged in the bag(s) provided.
Attention Girl Scout Leaders! Your troop can earn a badge from the Binky Patrol! For your troop project. Purchase fleece material then gather your troop for 2-3 hours of blanket making fun. Cut off the selvage edge (raw edge of the fabric), then cut the fleece fabric to blanket-length(s), cut the fringe (about 1" wide x 5" deep) on all four sides of the blanket, then tie the fringe. The blankets can be single- or double-layer. Easy instructions are on the Binky Patrol website and you can contact me for further instructions and to coordinate your event.
Community Service hours are available, just ask! Community Service hours should be pre-approved to be sure the project will meet the requirements of service. Once approved, contact me to coordinate the details. Community Service Hours: If you can only tie the fringe, that's ok! I will provide pre-cut prepped materials as long as my supply lasts. You will receive 30 minutes per blanket for tying the fringe. If you sew the labels on them in addition to tying the fringe you will receive credit for the time it takes to sew the labels on. Sewing is expected to be neat, no long threads left hanging. Please remember these blankets are being given to small children and must be kept clean, free of pet hair, dirt and odors. No smoking around these blankets as they will be given to small children.
Contact me to make arrangements and earn your hours! I need committed, organized individuals who will pick up and return the blankets on time. The blankets will be delivered to children in need of comfort as soon as they are returned to me. Timing is important!!

Mission Statement
Binky Patrol is devoted to reaching out to needy children, including victims of violent crimes, drug-addicted, ill, homeless, neglected, abused, or children experiencing trauma in any way. Binky Patrol volunteers bring a caring, loving touch by creating and delivering handmade blankets, "binkies", to enrich the children's lives and to meet their most basic needs of warmth, security and comfort. Binky Patrol's unique way of touching a child's life includes many mediums. To reach them, "binkies" are distributed through hospitals, shelters, other service organizations, and social service agencies. "Binkies" are to be given as gifts and are not recycled in the agencies.
Description
Binky Patrol's volunteers as well as chapter leaders make blankets which can be crocheted, sewn, knitted, tied, and even quilted for ill and traumatized children.
