Hospice Care Call Volunteers work either from home or from one of our office locations to call active hospice patients or their caregivers to ensure that all their needs are being met, they have all the medications and supplies necessary for their care (especially through weekends and holidays), and that anything that comes up in between visits from their clinical team gets addressed.

Care Calls form an important part of the hospice safety net that allows patients to live at home or in their community despite the impacts of living with a terminal illness. These volunteers also give caregivers an extra sense of security knowing that in between visits they receive from their field team, someone that cares is going to be checking on them and making sure they are ok.

Once the Care Call volunteer is trained, they will work with their volunteer coordinator to set up a schedule and a call list, documenting their calls using a HIPAA secure online portal. Calls are usually made on Thursdays or Fridays in order to ensure patients are set for the weekend and the clinical team has time to address needs.
