The vision of West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is a community where everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities and is a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. Our work is focused on Western Washington County, Oregon (Forest Grove, Cornelius, Gaston, North Plains, Gales Creek, Banks, Timber, Buxton and the surrounding areas).

Volunteers are welcomed to join one of our two core volunteer build crews. The core build crew works alongside future owners of Habitat Homes. The core repair crew assists vulnerable home owners with minor repairs and improvements, such as installing a wheel chair ramp, painting or removing rotting steps.

NO CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. We will teach you how to use tools and how to do any task, and a very experienced volunteer or professional will be helping you every step of the way. Working on our new builds can include framing, siding, painting, flooring, fencing, trim work, landscaping, drainage, and finish work. Working on home repair sites is similar.

We anticipate starting our home building at the new Countrymen Estates site in the Summer of 2024 - probably in May. When this home building resumes, our crew will work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday mornings, rain or shine. Our home repair crew follows a similar schedule. You can join either crew for a day, for a week, or longer!

Hard hats, safety vests, and protective glasses are provided and are to be worn at all times. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes or boots and to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on or getting dirty. Layering clothing is recommended as temperatures can change throughout the day. Volunteers are asked to wear rain pants and a jacket if you may be working in the rain - and remember, we work rain or shine.

We strongly discourage you from bringing valuables, including jewelry, to our worksites. Personal power tools are not allowed. There is no smoking, drugs, or alcohol allowed on our worksites.

Worksites are all over Western Washington County. If you do not have transportation to sites, we may be able to do ride sharing with other volunteers, meeting at the West Tuality Habitat for Humanity / ReStore office in Forest Grove.

If you are interested in volunteering on home building or home repair, express your interest here via VolunteerMatch and you will be added to our mailing list and will get information on the start date for volunteers, or the next date that volunteers will mobilize.

We are happy to sign off on any paperwork if you undertake this role for a class or if you want to do this for assigned community service. We can also sign off on paperwork for the President's Service Award.

If you are representing a group that is interested in this volunteering activity, please note this in your application, and provide us with as much detail as possible (how many, what organization you represent, etc.).

Volunteer go through an onsite safety training and must follow our Code of Conduct, which is available on our web site and is posted at the work site.

Please note that we cannot provide childcare and volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Other restrictions may apply. During service, volunteers are representatives of Habitat for Humanity and our mission. In addition to complying with all laws, regulations and Habitat for Humanity policies, all volunteers are expected to follow Habitat’s Code of Conduct.

We also strongly encourage you to follow West Tuality Habitat for Humanity on Facebook and Instagram and YouTube.
