The Interpretation Programs Office Assistant will work in the Interpretation to manage various administrative and maintenance tasks as part of our vibrant interpretation team. The incumbent will assist with administrative duties such as answering visitor inquiries, filing and paperwork as well as inventory, monitoring and office maintenance. Assistance is needed year-round. Please note there is no park housing available with this position. Candidates must live within commuting distance of Park Headquarters in Hawai'i National Park to be considered.


The overarching mission of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Interpretation program is to provide opportunities for individuals and groups to form connections to the resources and conservation values of the park through various programs, events and activities for the local and visiting public.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

· Assist Interpretation team with day-to-day planning and paperwork. To include managing uniform and supply inventory, issuing gear to new employees and volunteers, completing and submitting forms to accomplish these tasks.

· Maintain office space - keeping office clean and organized

· Greet visitors at special events and other on or off-site activities.

· Answer questions via phone and email about Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and the National Park Service to visitors, potential volunteers and interns.

· Provide excellent customer service

· Volunteer may drive a government vehicle, if the volunteer has a valid state driver's license.


The difficulty level of this position is not difficult.


Park housing is not available for this volunteer position.
