Moores Creek National Battlefield is a place of historical significance that needs your help! If you’re passionate about preserving history and enjoy working outdoors, volunteering as a Maintenance Assistant could be the perfect opportunity for you. Join us in our mission to protect and maintain this iconic site for future generations to come.
Selected volunteers will be responsible for general grounds and facilities maintenance in support of the Park's goals and objectives. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with facilities maintenance, such as cleaning buildings; trimming; painting; collecting trash and recycling; conducting minor fixes approved by the supervisor; etc.
- Providing support in other needed areas that do not require advanced training, such as using hand tools, power tools, and grounds equipment (unless such training is provided, which must be documented)
- Specialized tasks may be assigned, such as construction or operating heavy machinery, but qualifying credentials must be obtained and presented to the supervisor before such tasks are assigned
- Using chemicals, such as cleaners. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be utilized.
- Reaching and bending, as well as heavy lifting items up to 35 pounds.
Weather: Summers can be hot, humid, and buggy (mosquitoes). The Spring and Fall are cool with rainy periods. Winters are generally mild with occasional windy and cold nor’easter storms.
Transportation: Personal transportation is required to get to the park. There is no public transportation in the area.
Cell Service: The park does not have Wi-Fi at this point in time; cell service is spotty. Verizon and U.S. Cellular function best!
Prior experience working in maintenance is ideal but not required!
