JCHA’s Resident Empowerment and Community Engagement (RECE) Department empowers residents and guides investment in social infrastructure, including increasing resident awareness of and access to free or reduced-cost internet, devices, and digital literacy training. The Digital Empowerment program provides digital literacy training, high-speed broadband internet, and access to on-site computer labs for public housing residents. RECE is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to build, strengthen, and leverage community partnerships to improve resident self-sufficiency in an increasingly digital world. The VISTA member will work with the Digital Empowerment Coordinator to introduce technology as a method of reducing social isolation among the resident population. This exciting opportunity will not only create new partnerships but also strengthen existing ones for the community to grow by closing the digital divide.
VISTA Responsibilities
The VISTA member will:
- · Collaborate with the JCHA team to develop, implement, and coordinate site-based digital empowerment programming for residents.
- · Conduct a community outreach campaign to engage with public housing residents for feedback about digital empowerment.
- · Research and recommend grant funding opportunities that support ongoing and new digital inclusion programming.
- Develop a plan to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers (JCHA residents and non-residents) to support digital empowerment programming.
