JA BizTown Volunteer Experience

ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, Inc.

In JA BizTown, fourth through six graders run a 10,000 square-foot simulated city, complete with its own micro-economy. Students become an employee, taxpayer, and consumer. After participating in a comprehensive, in-school curriculum, students come to JA BizTown to get a taste of the real world of work through applied, hands-on learning.

Business volunteers are assigned to a JA BizTown storefront and guide students as they put their classroom learning into practice by running and working in a JA BizTown business. As a volunteer, you work alongside students through the day, offering your firsthand knowledge and expertise to enhance their experiences.

Each day, a team of 15-20 volunteers are needed to help students have a meaningful JA BizTown experience. JA staff are also on-site to lead the simulation. Online training is required prior to your JA BizTown visit. In addition, volunteers arrive early on simulation day for hands-on instruction.

Shape the future of the next generation by volunteering at Junior Achievement of Central Maryland's JA BizTown. With your help, we will continue to educate young people on how careers, money, and business work so they will be inspired and prepared to seize tomorrow's opportunities.
