The Lowman Ranger District is currently seeking to fill one Camp Host opportunity at the beautiful Elk Creek guard station.


A free campsite will be provided for the Host(s) who must have a self-contained RV or trailer. Tools and supplies will be furnished by the Forest Service.



Elk Creek, ID

Elk Creek Cabins are located in beautiful but remote Bear Valley at an elevation of 6,400 feet. They are adjacent to the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness and scenic Elk Creek. The cabins are situated in a high mountain meadow dotted with Douglas fir and lodgepole pine amid the peaks of the Sawtooth Range. During the summer months camp hosts will be responsible for taking care of several remote campgrounds including Bear Valley and Fir Creek. The Elk Creek camp host site has water, sewer, and an on-site generator available for use during the day. Bear Valley has 10 camp sites and 2 vaults, Fir Creek has 8 camp sites and 2 vaults.



A subsistence reimbursement allowance is available. There is no cell phone coverage in the area.

Boise, Cascade, Crouch, and Stanley are the closest towns for grocery shopping and resupply.

Propane and water are provided weekly by the Forest Service


Adults are preferred, as are seniors or a family. The start and end dates of this opportunity will vary depending on weather conditions/snow.
