ORGANIZATION: Words Alive

  • 7 people are interested

Did you know that there are nearly 60 languages besides English and Spanish that are spoken at homes across San Diego County? Are you fluent in Haitian Creole? Become a volunteer translator for Words Alive and help us provide resources to help families build healthy reading habits in their home languages and navigate distance learning!

Words Alive connects children, teens, and families to the power of reading. Through our "cradle-to-career" programming, Words Alive teaches families to incorporate healthy reading habits, develop analytical and critical thinking skills, and build expressive identities as readers. The more languages we can provide these resources in, the more families we can support, and we need your help to do it!

Volunteers in this role will be translating existing content from English to Haitian Creole and proofread translated materials. Projects range from one-page documents up to 10-15 pages. Volunteers will not be responsible for generating new content and do not need previous classroom, teaching, or early childhood education experience. Volunteers must attend a virtual volunteer orientation session and training session. This opportunity is fully virtual with flexible hours.
