Help bridge the digital literacy divide in our community. The Hayward Public Library is launching classes to bridge the digital literacy divide. These classes will teach adults about computer basics from parts of a computer to internet safety. Having digital literacy skills can greatly improve a person’s quality of life and is essential to being an active participant in today’s technologically advancing world.

Volunteers will lead a 5-week Digital Literacy Class, once a week, for 1.5 hours. All sessions will take place at the Downtown Hayward Library.

Requirements

This position requires a person with the following knowledge and skills:

  • The ability to communicate effectively and patiently with adults and seniors of all backgrounds, and library personnel.
  • Familiarity with wi-fi hotspots, tablets, laptops, and Chromebooks
  • Sufficient grasp of basic computer & digital literacy concepts
  • Familiarity with programs, such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivation/direction
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures and populations
  • 18 years old or above
  • Live Scan background check
