The Hayward Public Library is launching classes to bridge the digital literacy divide. These classes will teach adults about computer basics from parts of a computer to internet safety. Having digital literacy skills can greatly improve a person’s quality of life and is essential to being an active participant in today’s technologically advancing world.

Volunteers will lead a 5-week Digital Literacy Class, once a week, for 1.5 hours. All sessions will take place at the Downtown Hayward Library.

Requirements

This position requires a person with the following knowledge and skills:

  • The ability to communicate effectively and patiently with adults and seniors of all backgrounds, and library personnel.
  • Familiarity with wi-fi hotspots, tablets, laptops, and Chromebooks
  • Sufficient grasp of basic computer & digital literacy concepts
  • Familiarity with programs, such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivation/direction
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures and populations
  • 18 years old or above
  • Live Scan background check
