MISSION
St. Barnabas to empower a diverse community of older adults to Live Well, Feel Well and Age Well in the community with dignity and respect.

One out of every five California households don't know where or when their next meal is coming from. Your kindness and generosity will help ensure that seniors and those with disabilities have adequate food to eat!

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the volunteer is to provide and develop a brief connection with Senior participants by interacting and serving meals.

  • This opportunity is in-person at SBSS locations below:
  1. SBSS Hollywood
  2. SBSS Mid-City
  3. SBSS Echo Park
  4. Atwater
  5. Las Palmas
  6. Griffith Park
  7. Angelus Plaza
  8. Steel Plaza
  9. Crescent Arms
  • Congregate meals occur Monday-Friday from 9am-1pm.
  • Assist Dining Coordinator with setting-up and cleaning-up of the dining room.
  • Help sanitize tabletops before and after meal service.
  • Assists participants on sign-on sheets and initialing the roster sheet for verification of attendance.
  • Assist with daily activities and participant interaction for example art and craft, games, exercise, etc.
  • Assist with serving daily hot meals to participants.
  • Volunteers will assist in making telephone reassurance calls.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Age:18+
  • Volunteers must be Vaccinated for Covid-19
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and car insurance.
  • Must complete an SBSS Background Check (Background Check to be paid by the volunteer and payable to SBSS via check or money order: $35.00).
  • The Nutrition Coordinator will provide more information regarding registration, training, etc.

Mission Statement

We help seniors and their families maintain and enhance their independent lifestyles through meaningful involvement and peer relationships within a family atmosphere, which values cultural heritage, diversity and individual worth.

Description

Aging-in-place and wellness programs at Hollywood Senior Multipurpose Center (HSMPC) give seniors access to activities that promote healthy and active lifestyles. For seniors who are less independent, in-home support services help to prevent loneliness and isolation and serve as a lifeline of assistance.

ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS OF HSMPC
Active seniors can enjoy lunch at one of seven nutrition sites and may participate in Yoga classes, weekly movies, bingo days, poker and bridge clubs, a computer lab, lunchtime dances, a travel club, commercial acting classes and the chorale club.

For homebound seniors, aging-in-place programs such as home delivered meals, case management and our transportation program enable seniors to maintain their independence at home.
