Are you young at heart? Do you love children? Do you want to make a difference in Lake County for children impacted by the judicial system?
At Kids' Korner we care for up to 9 children, ages 2-12-years-old, typically for 15 minutes to 3 hours at a time. We provide a safe and fun place for them to wait (AND PLAY!) while their parent or guardian attends to court business in the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan. This is a FREE service we provide to the public.
We like to have fun while we wait for children to arrive! Flexibility is key! If you are happy to hang out with us, help us with projects or just chat while waiting for children and can switch gears to playing games, building train tracks, coloring, and creating a fun and safe environment for children when they arrive, you'd be a great fit for Kids' Korner.
At least one staff member is always present when you're scheduled.

Mission Statement
The purpose of Kids' Korner is to provide a safe and enjoyable waiting area for children whose parents or guardians are conducting court business thus enabling the courts to conduct business in an orderly fashion.
Description
Prior to Kids' Korner opening in 1994, children in the courthouse were often left unattended or brought into court proceedings putting them at risk of being adversely affected by witnessing adult matters. Since Kids' Korner opened over 54,000 children have had a safe, enjoyable place to wait. They receive sustained and encouraging adult contact from trained staff and volunteers. Thanks to our three projects, the children receive items to take home as a comfort to them during a stressful time. Our "Give-A-Blanket" project provides a handmade blanket to every child on their first visit. Our "Give-A-Book" project provides a gently used or new book to each child on every visit. During the holidays, each child chooses a wrapped stuffed animal from under our giving tree to take home as part of our "Give-An-Animal-A-Home" Project.
