We have many Hospice patients who are Veterans, and they often connect best with volunteers who are also Veterans. The familiarity and comfort that Veterans share with one another can be especially important and meaningful as a patient is navigating their end-of-life journey.
Our volunteers visit patients in their homes, nursing homes, and assisted living residences. Needs may vary from patient to patient, but some volunteer activities include:
- Talking to patients and their loved ones
- Sharing photos and stories
- Reading books, scripture, or newspapers
- Offering the comfort of your presence
- Running errands
Come support patients during their end-of-life journey as a valuable member of the Sanford Hospice team. It is an incredibly rewarding experience!
Qualifications:
- Military background
- A genuine desire to make a positive impact
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Empathetic and compassionate nature
- Reliability and commitment to scheduled volunteer hours
- Respect for patient confidentiality and boundaries
Training and support is provided throughout your volunteer experience. You can set your own visit schedule, as long as it works for the patient and family.
