Rough Ridge Rover Volunteer

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Featuring wonderful vistas of nearby Grandfather Mountain and a unique vantage of the parkway’s Linn Cove Viaduct, the Rough Ridge Area on the Tanawha Trail has become a popular location for a short hike on the parkway. The mountain is also home to multiple populations of globally rare and sensitive plant species, some of which are unknowingly trampled by park visitors as they attempt to take photos and explore in the area.

Volunteers in the Rough Ridge Rovers Program will engage with park visitors, answering questions and sharing important information about these critically imperiled species, helping preserve park resources through visitor education.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a weekly, 3 hour shift, either 10 am-1pm or 1pm-4 pm from May 15 through August 15. If available and interested, rovers may be asked to stay through the typically busy October fall leaf season.
