Volunteer Healthcare Clinic

For 55 years, the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic has been providing basically free, high quality health care to some of Austin's most vulnerable residents low income adults and children with no health insurance or other means of obtaining medical services. What is truly unique about our Clinic is that we are almost entirely volunteer-driven, with over 400 volunteers (medical and non-medical alike), who all donate their time and expertise to make our clinics a reality.

We hold 3 clinics a week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Monday night is a Chronic Disease Management Clinic where we treat patients with diabetes, hypertension and thyroid issues. Tuesday/Thursday are Acute/Primary Care clinics where we treat general illness and non-emergency-type issues. COVID-19 is being constantly monitored and at the moment, Monday and Tuesday clinics are telehealth clinics and Thursdays are in-person.

Some of our volunteers have set schedules and some pick-up on a monthly basis. We are happy to work with your schedule, COVID-19 has made the Clinic busier than ever and we are looking for some more help.

Please note - we are also very interested in recently retired physicians, who could work on an as needed basis. While we have many physicians who help us cover our clinics, cancelations are inevitable and we would like to have a few more recently retired physicians in our volunteer pool who could pick up a shift on relatively short notice.

Volunteers are covered under the Charitable Immunity and Liability Act of 1987.

About Volunteer Healthcare Clinic

Location:

4215 Medical Parkway, Austin, TX 78756, US

Mission Statement

The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic provides free, high quality healthcare to some of Austin's most vulnerable residents.

Description

In 1966, a dedicated group quietly began finding healthcare for people who had no access to medical services. Many of Austin's working poor such as manual laborers must choose between food for their families and medical care. The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic, formerly known as Caritas Clinic, provides high quality healthcare for this uninsured population. With a small staff, our clinic is operated almost entirely by volunteer doctors, nurses, interpreters and office aides. Our volunteers range from young adults to retired medical professionals sharing their time and talent with some of Austin's most vulnerable residents.
