Mission Statement
Dancers Beyond Labels (DBL) strives to change the standards and conversations around body image in the dance industry, and society as a whole. We raise awareness about the prevalence of eating disorders and are working to create more nurturing educational environments for young dancers. Dancers Beyond Labels also aims to make ED treatment more financially accessible to those in the dance community, as well as the general population. At DBL, we believe that all dancers should feel comfortable and confident in their own skin, regardless of their body shape or size. Our organization is made up of passionate and dedicated individuals who share this belief and are committed to making a positive change in the dance community.
Description
Since its founding, Dancers Beyond Labels, a youth-led organization, has reached over 800 dancers and has developed an international volunteer network. We have a number of different programs, including our Studio Network, which is a collective of dance studios committed to cultivating inclusive and supportive environments for dancers of all body shapes and sizes. We have also been featured in news publications and podcasts such as Behind the Bite podcast, which is hosted by a California-based psychologist specializing in Eating Disorders.
