Adaptive Sports Competitive Swim Team:
Looking for a volunteer to support the Adaptive Sports competitive swim team. Swimmers are all individuals with physical disabilities and may have a secondary disability, such as ADHD, Autism, learning disability. Volunteers may help time a lane of swimmers in each respective strokes.
Recreational Swim Program:
Also, looking for a volunteer who has strong leadership and communication skills to to facilitate basic water play/games for a Recreational Swim Program for kids with disabilities ages 8 to 18 years old. This role does not require you to be in the water. Recreational swimmers must be able to be safe in the water without assistive devices. Recreational swimmers may be supported in games and activities by volunteers but will be under the supervision of parent/legal guardian at all times.
Our Aquatic and Fitness Center is a beautiful, 27,000 square foot facility featuring two indoor pools, a fitness center and strength training room. Those rehabilitating after an injury or those looking to build strength and improve overall health and wellness are able to use the fully accessible facility. Membership is open to the community.
Our 20-yard fitness pool features a family-friendly recreational swim area, three-lap lanes and is heated to 84-degrees.
Our warm-water pool is a special purpose pool designed to help reduce pain during and after aquatic therapy and is open to members with special health needs. It offers zero-depth entry and is heated to 92 degrees.

Description
Hospital for Special Care is a private, not-for-profit, 228 bed Long-Term, Acute-Care hospital licensed by the state of CT. as a chronic disease hospital. The hospital is renowned for its expertise in physical rehabilitation, respiratory care and medically-complex pediatrics. In addition, special programs are available in the treatment of spinal cord injuries and illness, acquired brain injuries, strokes and breathing disorders.
We also provide a full range of outpatient services, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, rehabilitation evaluation, neuropsychology and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. The hospital also includes a 27,000 foot Aquatic Rehabilitation Center, which completes the full spectrum of rehabilitation and community fitness activities offered.
We also have a 28 bed satellite facility located within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. The satellite serves patients who are medically or surgically complex and/or require specialized care.
