ORGANIZATION: San Diego Model Railroad Museum



Librarians at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum have the opportunity to learn and share information about the railroads, their history and the trains that ran on them.

Volunteer Librarians welcome museum guest into the Erwin Welsch Research Library. They are responsible for inventorying donations, cataloging records, helping guests find the resource they are looking for, selling overstock books, and helping digitize the museum's archive. Volunteers do not need to have experience with trains or model railroading.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Time Commitment: The museum and library are open Tuesday-Sunday, 11:00am - 4:00pm. Volunteer Librarians are expected to serve a minimum of 2 shifts per month.

Onboarding Process: Volunteers must train with head librarians for at least five days before they are able to work solo.

Desired Skills/Experience: Organized, previous experience with computer programs (Photoshop Elements, Word, Google Drive, and Excel), experience with Past Perfect a plus, ability to work well and communicate with others, ability to work on own, and self-motivated.

Physical Requirements: The library is accessed via a staircase. Ability to physically walk and climb stairs. Ability to bend, squat and lift up to 15-20 pounds. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations. There is an elevator so the space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible.

Note: This position does not run model trains.
