This opportunity involves visiting with inpatients in a hospital setting providing conversation, magazines, games or puzzles to help improve the patient experience. This is a 2-hour shift either 10 am-12 noon or 2 pm-4pm Monday through Friday. Volunteers can select a specific day/shift of the week that suits them or more than one day/shift. Volunteers should be comfortable in a hospital setting. Orientation and shadowing the position with staff is required.

Vernon Memorial Healthcare is a rural nonprofit critical access hospital. We have received a 5 Star award for Patient Experience 16 years in a row. Our volunteers are a vital role in achieving this acknowledgement with patient wayfinding, assisting transporting patients in wheelchairs to their destination, managing and working in our gift shop, participation in fundraising efforts and in various positions behind the scenes which then allows staff to focus on patient care and safety.
