One of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social services agencies, BRC serves men and women who are homeless, or at risk of becoming so. We are committed to our mission to help the homeless of New York City and are always happy to hear from others who have the same passion and desire to make a difference.
We have several residential programs throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens, several of which are very interested in brightening up their common spaces through murals. We are actively looking for a team of volunteers who have a creative edge and can come up with ideas. This is a multi-step process:
- Visit the selected site to view the space, meet with staff, discuss ideas, make suggestions
- Create a design based on these conversations, then submit that design for review
- Once the design is selected, a few volunteers will converge on the site to put up the outline (think of a coloring book or paint-by-numbers)
- All volunteers in your group will return to the site to paint the mural over a full day, or multiple days
If you do have the skillset for this, and are interested in bringing in some light and color to a homeless facility, we would love to hear from you!

Mission Statement
Helping people reclaim lives lost: We restore hope and dignity by offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency.
Description
BRC: Helping People to Reclaim Lives Lost. BRC is a leading provider of housing and services to thousands of New York City's individuals in need. Offering a hand-up, not a handout, BRC asks one simple question: What can we do for you? BRC sees the potential in each individual it serves and provides each the opportunity to find it. Whatever our clients may seek, BRC has it, 24/7/365: outreach to homeless people living in public spaces, drug treatment, mental health care, comprehensive medical services, vocational services, and supportive communities in which to live. BRC succeeds by building trust with the people we serve; listening, and then acting, providing housing - both temporary and permanent. Building trust takes time, and a compassionate, dedicated staff of almost 1,000 employees and 1,000+ volunteers that persevere 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, never giving up.
