I. Organizational Purpose and Background

Yavapai County Community Health Services (YCCHS) is the health department in Yavapai County. The mission of YCCHS states: "Yavapai County Community Health Services will provide leadership, information, and services that contribute to improving the health and well-being of Yavapai County residents." The AmeriCorps member will work with the Maternal and Child Health/WIC and Health Start programs, focusing on outreach and community engagement activities to support the health and well-being of pregnant and postpartum people, and children under the age of five.


II. Project Focus Areas and Activities

A. Build Relationships with Community Partners

The AmeriCorps member will develop and maintain relationships with community partners, including OB/GYN clinics, pediatricians, libraries, childcare settings, and other relevant organizations to enhance access to maternal and child health services.

B. Outreach and Marketing

The AmeriCorps member will design and produce outreach materials to share with community partners and distribute at community events, ensuring the outreach material effectively communicates the services and benefits of the Yavapai County Maternal and Child Health/WIC and Health Start programs. The member will post regularly to social media for the WIC and Health Start programs.

C. Attend Community Events

The AmeriCorps member will represent Yavapai County Maternal and Child Health programs at community events such as Farmer's markets, Health Fairs, and Back to School events. They will distribute outreach materials and provide information about available services to attendees to promote the programs and build awareness.


III. Requirements and Benefits

A. Education, Skills, and Abilities

● High school diploma or equivalent.

● 18 years or older, no upper age limit. All ages are welcome and encouraged to apply

● Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Internet-based communications

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting in a consistent, energetic, positive manner

● Strong organizational and time management skills

● Group facilitation and public speaking skills

● Strong skills in utilizing social media

● Self-motivated; ability to work with minimal supervision

● Effective problem-solving skills

● Ability and desire to work with a variety of individuals

● Ability to understand the "big picture"; while completing detail-oriented tasks

● Friendly and effective interpersonal skills

● Consistent and reliable access to a vehicle required

B. AmeriCorps Public Health Corps Member Benefits (full-time)

● Living Allowance - $20,000 for a year of service
