Music is the language of our souls

ORGANIZATION: Gentiva Hospice

Has listening to music ever pulled you out of a slump or put a spring in your step? There have been many quotes about music throughout time. Bob Marley, a Jamaican musician, songwriter and activist once said "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain". There may be a physiological reason for this phenomena, in part. Neuroscientists have discovered that music stimulates the production of dopamine in the brain, a feel good neurotransmitter. Additionally, music has been shown to reduce anxiety, decrease pain, and promote relaxation in patients. If you play an instrument, sing, or just have a love of music, you may want to consider volunteering for hospice. Gentiva hospice is currently recruiting individuals to share their love of music with others. Our patients reside in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, memory care facilities, and even in their own homes. We look forward to hearing from you!
