Volunteer Swimming Instructors Needed!

ETIV do Brasil in partnership with SwimTayka offers swimming lessons to low-income children living on the coast of Bahia, Brazil in a beautiful fishing and surfing town known as Itacare. We are looking for 3 or 4 volunteers who can support our lead swim teacher and help him or her in the pool with the daily swimming lessons. This position is seasonal and will only be taking place for 3 months (from September through November of 2023). Meanwhile, this is the only position we offer where volunteers can come for at least 2 weeks to participate.

Etiv do Brasil is looking for volunteers to teach swimming lessons during the months of September, October and November of 2023. We recommend that volunteers come for a month if not the full two months that the project will take place, although the least stay time could be 2 to 3 weeks. If staying longer you'll be able to learn portuguese better and build strong relationship with the children and the community.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To support our swimming program, including the kids and the community participating in the program, the lead swim teacher and the other volunteers and interns working there.
  • To be ready to get in the pool with the kids as necessary and serve as an extra lifeguard when our lead swim teacher is in the pool with the kids.
  • To take attendance and document outcomes including successes, challenges, and best practices for every class.
  • To support all of the planning and logistics of the program
  • To support the implementation of field trips, children can practice swimming in open waters at the end of lessons.

  • Volunteers must work at least 20 hours per week
  • Basic Portuguese
  • At least 2 weeks time commitment
  • Ability to swim
  • Certification in CPR and lifeguard training preferred

ETIV do Brasil is located in Itacaré, Bahia. A beautiful fishing and surfing town. Our mission is to support development and environmental conservation in Brazil, with a deep focus on youth development.

Most interns can receive university credit while interning with our NGO; some can even receive a University stipend or grant to help cover their expenses. We will offer ongoing support as needed, and arrange taxi pickups, local accommodations, and even Capoeira or Portuguese classes. All volunteers and interns will also receive our Pre-Departure PowePoint, Introduction to the NGO, a tour of Itacare, and life insurance during their internship at the NGO.

If you are seeking meaningful volunteering or internship experience in a stunning location this is your opportunity. Itacaré is a unique place, with a thriving Afro-Brazilian culture, where the Rainforest meets the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful beaches, jungle, coconut trees, waterfalls, and wildlife abound.
