Do you love to make art & teach others? Help spark joy & unleash creativity at Nativity House Shelter.
Nativity House Shelter is looking for volunteers to lead art workshops.
The Nativity House Shelter has a full-time art instructor, however we are looking for volunteers to help lead specialized art workshops and workshops on the days that our instructor is not on duty.
Beading and papercrafts are currently very popular activities in the Nativity House Art Room.
Scheduling is VERY flexible. We are open to scheduling quarterly, monthly, weekly or bi-weekly workshops or doing one-off events.
Requirements:
- Experience teaching adult art education
- At least 18 years old & able to pass a Washington State Patrol background check
- Volunteers must sign a Covid-19 liability waiver to be eligible to serve
- Volunteer must attend a volunteer orientation before they can start volunteering

- Kindness, patience & a good sense of humor
- Comfort working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds & experiences
- Understanding that art enriches lives, especially the lives of people experiencing deep poverty
- Ability to leave judgement at the door & create a fun, safe & welcoming space
- Flexibility & creativity in finding ways to teach using supplies that have been donated

Description
Volunteer Services provides low-income adults (anyone 18 years old or older) who have temporary or permanent functional disabilities, including those associated with aging. The people we serve can not afford to purchase the kinds of service we provide, do not qualify for assistance from other sources and do not have family or friends available to help them. Service is provided on an as-volunteers-are-available basis. There are never any fees for the services provided.
