ABOUT LARS:
For more than 35 years, LARS has been a source of hope and relief for members of the Laurel community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and for individuals and families who struggle to meet their basic needs. Through a variety of supportive services including financial help with rent and utilities, food assistance, and subsidized housing, LARS provides individuals and families with the stability they need to build better futures for themselves and for their families. In addition, case managers teach skills that foster growth in the areas of personal finances, education, employment, and mental and physical well-being. Our goal is not only to alleviate the immediate crisis, but also to teach skills and habits that empower people to maintain financial stability and prevent future crises.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Fundraising and Development volunteer is centered around supporting director of development and fundraising. As a volunteer you will actively contribute to the growth and success of our organization by assisting the department and supporting development efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in promoting fundraising events and campaigns.
- Communicating organizations mission to the community
- Assisting donor database and support team with mailing campaigns.
- Research prospective and current donors, help create content for social media posts, work on creating social media calendar.

Qualifications:
- Passion for organization mission and commitment to making positive impact within community.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using computer applications and software, including word and outlook.
- Attention to Detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365; Google Suite; databases; etc. with willingness to learn new systems and strengthen knowledge.
- Possess a "can-do" attitude that is people-oriented and comfortable with change.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Background check is required.
- Flexible hybrid schedule

To enable homeless and low-income people in Laurel who are in crisis to achieve stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
Description
LARS is a non-profit serving homeless and low-income families and individuals in Laurel, MD. LARS was founded in 1987 by congregation leaders who sought a consolidated approach to responding to homelessness in Laurel. Today LARS is staffed by trained social workers and continues to receive support from its founding faith-based partners.
Emergency Services are offered including financial assistance to for housing and utilities; vouchers for eyeglasses, clothing and furniture; and a food pantry which can be utilized by clients every 30 days. LARS also helps homeless clients with obtaining support services.
Supportive Housing provides subsidized housing and long-term supportive services to chronically homeless and disabled individuals and families who live in local apartments leased by LARS. Referrals for these programs come directly from Prince George's County's coordinated entry system.
Self-Sufficiency Program provides more intensive case management/mentoring to stabilized and motivated households who work closely with a LARS case manager to maintain permanent housing, improve financial habits, gain employment, and remove other barriers to self-sufficiency.
