Reading BridgeVolunteers are needed at the libraries! Did you know that only half the students in our county are reading at grade level? The library is looking for volunteers to support 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders in building a love of reading and practicing their skills to become more confident readers through the Reading Bridge Program. Thanks to amazing library volunteers, 50 students received one-to-one reading help over the summer, but there were more who were on the waiting list. The libraries are are looking for your help to ensure every student has a mentor each spring and fall!
Interested volunteers must commit to one hour per week to read and play literacy games with students at the library after school. Applications for the fall Reading Bridge season are accepted throughout the month of August. Families will sign up for a spot in September and mentoring sessions will run from October through Mid-December.
Applications for the spring Reading Bridge season are accepted throughout January. Families will sign up for a spot in January and mentoring sessions will run from mid-February through mid-April.
Reading Bridge Mentors can also serve in the Summer season as well.
A background check is required. Training is provided online and all books, games, and materials are provided at the library.
