Mission Statement

The Gliding Stars of Erie Inc organization provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to increase their personal potential through development of ice skating skills in a regular program of instruction and practice in our local community. Through ice skating our participants achieve the physical benefits of improved posture, fine and gross motor coordination, strengthened muscles, and improved balance. Our instructional program, a social and recreational activity, brings people with and without disabilities together in a team-oriented, helping environment. The achievement of progressive skills creates a positive self-image that enhances the quality of life and the skater’s ability to succeed in other life situations.

Description

Gliding Stars of Erie Inc is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization is Erie Pennsylvania. Our program has been in Erie for 23 years, skating at Mercyhurst University Ice Center for all of those years. Our skating season runs from mid-September to mid-April each year, our season culminates with our annual ice show allowing everyone the opportunity to showcase new skills to family, friends and member of the puiblic.
Our program is dependent on our on-ice volunteers who skate weekly with our participants...these volunteers must have a basic ice skating ability (skate forward, backward, stop and recover from a fall without assistance) and be willing to relate to our many skaters.
