About Work Activity Center

Mission Statement

The Work Activity Center enriches the lives of people with disabilities by actively providing opportunities for independence and individual growth.

Description

With over 60 years of continuous service, The Work Activity Center is Utah’s oldest non-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities. A true grassroots organization, The Center was founded in 1958 by a group of parents frustrated by the lack of services for their children with disabilities. When public education for all children was mandated in the 1970’s, our focus changed to assisting adults with disabilities, a population often forgotten. Over the years our programs and services have grown to meet the complex and varying needs of our clients with a wide range of disabilities.

Today, we serve over 160 individuals, fulfilling our mission of enriching the lives of people with disabilities by actively providing opportunities for independence and individual growth. The Center provides three main programs: Day Services, where individuals come to the Center each day to learn work, social, and healthy living skills; Employment Services, where the Center provides a spectrum of opportunities from in-house jobs and training to community-based supported employment; and Residential Services, where individuals are encouraged to live self-sufficiently with assistance from Center staff. Additionally, the Center provides transportation which connects clients with critical services that help them achieve independence.
