Naloxone Accessibility Challenge
SAFE Project is looking for volunteers to help raise awareness for the lifesaving, overdose reversal drug, naloxone, also known as Narcan(r). SAFE plans to launch the challenge nationally to ensure that everyone knows "Naloxone Saves Lives" and knows how to access it in their neighborhood.
Sign up for challenge by emailing us at volunteer@safeproject.us
2 Steps to the Challenge
- Social Media Awareness Challenge
- Finding Naloxone in your neighborhood
Awareness Challenge:
Tell individuals about the importance of naloxone on social media and challenge them to join the project #NaloxoneSavesLives and #HarmReduction
Also encourage them to complete SAFE Project's Opioid Reversal Training at the following link:
SAFE Project (thinkific.com)
Not sure what to say? We will set you up for success in the short training to prep you for this, In the meantime, read more information about the benefits of naloxone and check out the naloxone rules where you live.
Keep the challenge going: Challenge each of your friends to tell their friends about naloxone.
Step Two: Find Naloxone in your neighborhood
Find Naloxone in your neighborhood by doing some research. Visit the location and ask how naloxone is distributed locally and what is required to purchase it. We will prepare you for this visit by providing information about rules and resources in your area. Then you can visit the location alone or with a friend.
TRAINING
This volunteer opportunity is free, and you will not be asked to purchase anything. Spreading the word is critical and this is an easy way to help build awareness about the benefits and use of naloxone. There will be a training session that will take about 30 minutes and then whatever time it takes for sharing with your friends and your community visits. After your visit, we would like to have you fill out a short survey about the visit so that we can track awareness as well as the progress of the program.
Project Goals:
Bring Awareness
Reduce Stigma
Build Relationships
Reduce Barriers to Access
Inform Policy Change

Description
SAFE Project was founded in November 2017 by Admiral James and Mary Winnefeld, following the loss of their 19-year old son Jonathan to an accidental opioid overdose. Read more about Jonathan Winnefeld.
The Winnefelds immediately channeled their grief into action, hoping to save more families from the pain of loss. Whether it was seeking treatment, getting answers, or understanding the nature of the disease - they knew there needed to be a different solution to help other families facing the same journey with substance use disorder.
They swiftly built our SAFE Project team of experts who strive for meaningful action through our programs, and lead efforts that are unifying, non-partisan and evidence-based. SAFE seeks meaningful metrics that strengthen our interdependent six lines of operation, and ultimately aim to achieve SAFE Communities, SAFE Campuses, SAFE Workplaces and SAFE Veterans across the nation.
