The Joy of Living (JOL) is a 501c (3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Baltimore, MD that uses a data-driven approach to fight poverty, education and workforce barriers, and personal trauma among women, children, youth, and marginalized families to promote lasting change. Many of JOL’s constituents are low-income and homeless families in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County, and beyond. Since 2006, JOL has assisted over 100,000 marginalized families, providing support, economic stability, and self-development to women, children, and youth.

Our main challenge is having inadequate funding to manage the organization. This prevents us from running necessary programs, hiring staff, and securing a physical location for programming. In addition, we have a challenge attracting new donors, partnering organizations, and funders whose mission aligns with JOL

To better assist our mission to help all women and children, we need an experienced grant writer who can assist us with identifying appropriate grants that match our mission, and project (s). We would like to meet if possible in person, but we are willing to also meet virtually. Thank you for your time and service.

Mission Statement

Changing the cycle of poverty for (low-income) at-risk women, children, and youth in underserved communities through education and encouraging positive self-worth to a pathway out of poverty to move towards self-sufficiency.

Description

At the Joy of Living Center, we use an empowering and advocating approach to change the cycle of poverty for low-income women, children, and youth by offering an array of services that educate and encourage positive self-worth to a pathway out of poverty to move towards self-sufficiency. We are honored to be a part of each person’s journey towards healing, joy, and hope and to create the promise of a better tomorrow.

Our daily work at The Joy of Living is motivated by the unwavering commitment of its volunteers. The Joy of Living has a long practice of empowering and encouraging many people by sharing knowledge and creating educational, empowering activities that enrich the lives of women, children, youth, and marginalized families in the community. We provide an array of services in four programming phases---services for Women, Children/Youth, Health and Wellness, and Outreach. Through our programs and services, we address the critical needs of disadvantaged communities. Each year, we impact the lives of more than 5,500 people in our communities. Our work empowers each participant to become the hero of their own story.
